Susanne Wehmer’s pictorical language may be called hyperrealistic in its degree of detail, however it is not the objective reality she tries to portray, but rather how it appears sublimated, transfigured by desire. A desire that in turn is created by mass media, advertising and other sources of artificial paradises and worlds of seduction. Her oil paintings on plexiglas contrast the traditional technique with industrial supports, achieving satin finishes typical of magazines and, in general, images born for sensorial delight. However, a certain silence prevails in her work, far away from the usual media shrillness.
